Diesel prices remain nearly the same as a week ago

The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel across the U.S. jiggled up just slightly from a week ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

On Monday, March 11, the EIA reported the U.S. average price for a gallon of diesel fuel was three-tenths of a cent higher than a week previous.

Monday’s average price is a dime higher than one year ago.

Following are the average prices by region as reported by the EIA for Monday:

• U.S. – $3.079, up three-tenths of a cent.
• East Coast – $3.23, up two-fifths of a cent.
• New England – $3.183, up three-fifths of a cent.
• Central Atlantic – $3.315, up 1.4 cents.
• Lower Atlantic – $2.9815, down two-fifths of a cent.
• Midwest – $3.011, down three-tenths of a cent.
• Gulf Coast – $2.8817 up 2.1 cents.
• Rocky Mountain – $2.939, up 1.1 cents.
• West Coast – $3.505, up one-fifth of a cent.
• West Coast without California – $3.12, up seven-tenths of a cent.
• California – $3.7789, down one-tenth of a cent.

ProMiles reports the national average U.S. retail price for diesel on Monday, March 11, increased about 2 cents per gallon from a week before.

ProMiles, the software company that maintains the websites ProMiles.com and TruckMiles.com, offers its own weekly fuel price information. The company’s fuel price data are presented in the same format used by the EIA in the agency’s weekly reports. The prices include a national average as well as regional averages, and comparisons to the previous week and the previous year.

A key difference between the EIA and ProMiles reporting is the type and number of fueling stations the company surveys in order to calculate its averages. While EIA surveys 400 truck stops and convenience stores nationwide, ProMiles uses its direct feed from thousands of truck stops to develop its averages.

• U.S. – $2.989, up 1.9 cents.
• East Coast – $3.093, up three-fifths of a cent.
• New England – $3.145, down seven-tenths of a cent.
• Central Atlantic – $3.297, down two-fifths of a cent.
• Lower Atlantic – $2.978, up 1.1 cents.
• Midwest – $2.953, up 2.6 cents.
• Gulf Coast – $2.876, up 1.5 cents.
• Rocky Mountain – $2.916, up a half cent.
• West Coast – $3.326, 1.1 cents.
• West Coast less California – $3.074, up 1.1 cents.
• California – $3.702, down nine-tenths of a cent.

AAA reported a national average price per gallon for diesel fuel at $3.005 for Monday, March 11.

A week previous, the price was $2.994.

A month previous, AAA reported $2.916 per gallon of diesel fuel and a year ago $2.937 per gallon.

The highest recorded average price for diesel was $4.845 per gallon on July 17, 2008, according to AAA.
