U.S. average diesel fuel price went up 1.5 cents from last week.

The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel across the U.S. wend up 1.5 cents from a week ago, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

California’s average price for a gallon of diesel fuel went up 6 cents, pushing the average for the West Coast up a nickel, according to the EIA’s Monday, April 8, report.

Following are the average prices by region as reported by the EIA for Monday:

• U.S. – $3.093, up 1.5 cents.
• East Coast – $3.137, up 1 cent.
• New England – $3.193, down three-tenths of a cent.
• Central Atlantic – $3.324, up 1.5 cents.
• Lower Atlantic – $2.998, up seven-tenths of a cent.
• Midwest – $2.993, up nine-tenths of a cent.
• Gulf Coast – $2.879, up seven-tenths of a cent.
• Rocky Mountain – $3.028, up 2.1 cents.
• West Coast – $3.591, up 5 cents.
• West Coast without California – $3.189, up 3.6 cents.
• California – $3.91, up 6.1 cents.

According to ProMiles, the national average U.S. retail price for diesel fuel on Monday, April 8, squeaked above $3 a gallon.

ProMiles, the software company that maintains the websites ProMiles.com and TruckMiles.com, offers its own weekly fuel price information. The company’s fuel price data are presented in the same format used by the EIA in the agency’s weekly reports. The prices include a national average as well as regional averages, and comparisons to the previous week and the previous year.

A key difference between the EIA and ProMiles reporting is the type and number of fueling stations the company surveys in order to calculate its averages. While EIA surveys 400 truck stops and convenience stores nationwide, ProMiles uses its direct feed from thousands of truck stops to develop its averages.

• U.S. – $3.001, up 1.1 cents.
• East Coast – $3.091, up a half cent.
• New England – $3.155, down one-tenth of a cent.
• Central Atlantic – $3.28, up one-tenth of a cent.
• Lower Atlantic – $2.976, up two-fifths of a cent.
• Midwest – $2.961, up 1.1 cents.
• Gulf Coast – $2.871, up one-fifth of a cent.
• Rocky Mountain – $2.993, up 2.4 cents.
• West Coast – $3.383, up 3.2 cents.
• West Coast less California – $3.095, up 2.5 cents.
• California – $3.782, up 4 cents.

AAA reported a national average price per gallon for diesel fuel at $3.037 for Monday, April 8.

A week previous, the price was $3.028.

A month previous, AAA reported $3.002 per gallon of diesel fuel and a year ago $2.974 per gallon.

The highest recorded average price for diesel was $4.845 per gallon on July 17, 2008, according to AAA.
