The Spirit pulls into Glendale, Ky., Petro before heading to MATS

Jon Osburn, skipper of OOIDA’s touring tractor-trailer, plans to spend this weekend in at the Glendale, Ky., Petro Stopping Center.

Come Monday, he will drive some 60 miles north to the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville to take part in the Mid-America Trucking Show on March 28-30.

The Glendale Petro is at Exit 86 from I-65. It has 263 truck parking spots, an Iron Skillet restaurant, a Dunkin’ Donuts Express, five truck service bays, Wi-Fi and other amenities.

Jon says both the Glendale stop and the one before it at West Memphis, Ark., are great stops where he gets to talk with many truckers.

At both places, drivers want to know the latest on hours-of-service reform. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration seems poised to do something, Jon says, and FMCSA Administrator Ray Martinez has promised that a proposed rulemaking is in the works.

Jon has tickets to MATS to hand out so drivers can attend the OOIDA Town Hall Meeting for members on Thursday, March 28, before the show doors open to the public. The OOIDA Town Hall Meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in room C-104 of the South Wing corridor inside the Kentucky Exposition Center. Register for the Town Hall Meeting here.

FMCSA’s Martinez is scheduled to be at MATS. He is expected to speak at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, in room B-101.

There also will be a strong contingent from Land Line Magazine and Land Line Now broadcast staffs at MATS, including Managing Editor Jami Jones, Digital Content Editor Greg Grisolano, staff writers Tyson Fisher and Wendy Parker, radio host Mark Reddig and Land Line Now anchor Terry Scruton.
