Trade, weather bog down rates

Trade concerns and bad weather bogged down rates this past week, but the spot market is heating up. Also, OOIDA and a Colorado trucking group are fighting an effort to roll back towing protections for truckers. Meanwhile, diesel prices dipped as crude oil prices continue to drop. And a Democratic presidential candidate has announced an infrastructure plan.

  • Bison Transport, one of the largest carriers in Canada, celebrated its 50th anniversary in trucking. Incorporated as a cartage service for the construction industry, Bison has grown to more than 1,700 tractors and 2,900 employees across Canada. Bison Transport is also a major supporter of the World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics, which is slated this year for September 7, 2019.
  • Lewie Pugh of Freeport, Ohio, has been recognized by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association for 22 years of safe, accident-free driving as part of the OOIDA Safe Driving Award Program.   • The FMCSA is seeking public comments on a plan to develop a second pilot program to allow drivers between the ages of 18 and 20 behind the wheel of interstate commercial vehicles. Comments are due July 15.
