OOIDA’s touring tractor-trailer, the Spirit of the American Trucker, has been polished and spiffed up for its next truck show stop, Shell Rotella’s SuperRigs.

The theme of the 36th annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs is “Tribute to Toughness.”

The show is a truck beauty contest for working trucks. Owner-operators from across the United States and Canada compete annually for more than $25,000 in cash and prizes. Twelve drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2019 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

Judging will take place Thursday and Friday. The judges, which include Land Line Managing Editor Jami Jones, will score the trucks on exterior appearance, design, detail, originality and workmanship.

Show attendees will get a chance to see Shell Rotella’s Starship truck, an aerodynamic, fuel-efficient truck-of-the-future prototype. It is fresh off a cross-country run under load. It is a truck meant to change the conversation on fuel mileage.

The show takes place at White’s Travel Center, which is just off Interstates 81 and 64 in Raphine, Va. Take Exit 205.

The Spirit will be there June 14-16.

Jon Osburn, who drives OOIDA’s The Spirit, arrives at SuperRigs fresh from another truck show, the Buckeye Invitational Truck Show in Springfield, Ohio.

Despite some rain, Jon says the Buckeye Invitational was a lot of fun. There was so many musicians performing, he called it “Truck-stock.”

By the way, just a note, it also rained at that other music festival in 1969, Woodstock.

Whenever you see The Spirit tour truck, go say hello to Jon. He enjoys visiting about the Association’s activities and current issues. You also can join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price there. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
