Truck stops to be renamed for 2018 Citizen Drivers; nominations open for 2019

Dates and locations for renaming TA & Petro truck stops to honor the 2018 Citizen Driver honorees have been announced by TravelCenters of America.

In addition, TravelCenters of America has opened nominations for the 2019 Citizen Driver selection process.

The Citizen Driver program was launched in 2013. It honors professional truckers who have been positive role models in the trucking industry and within their communities.

There have been 31 Citizen Drivers who have had a TA or Petro Stopping Center location named to honor them. Twenty-six of those drivers are also OOIDA members.

Here is the schedule and locations for renaming truck stops to honor the 2018 Citizen Drivers:

  • The TA in Wheat Ridge, Colo., at 6:30 p.m. on June 20 becomes the Danny and Cindy George Wheat Ridge Travel Center;
  • The Petro in Oklahoma City, Okla., at 1 p.m. on June 22, become the Ingrid R. Brown Oklahoma City Stopping Center;
  • The TA in North Bend, Wash., at 1 p.m. on July 5 becomes Carol Wolder-Nixon North Bend Travel Center; and
  • The TA in Branford, Conn., at 1 p.m. on July 7 becomes the Roland Bolduc Branford Travel Center.

 

2019 Citizen Driver nominations
Anyone may nominate a professional driver for this award, including fleet owners and executives, co-workers, friends, family members, trucking organization members, trucking industry customers. Among other honors, winners will have a TA or Petro location named for them.

The online form asks for driver history information and military service highlights and information about the nominee’s citizenship and professionalism, safety record, community involvement, leadership qualities, and heathy lifestyle.

Nominations for 2019 Citizen Drivers will be accepted through Sept. 30.
