Truck parking added along Wisconsin interstate
There are now more truck parking spaces available at Wisconsin rest areas.
A $20 million project along Interstate 43 in Manitowoc County that began in April 2025 has been completed.
The rest areas were built in 1980 with limited truck parking and outdated facilities, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Following these updates, the rest areas near Denmark, Wis., combine for more than 100 truck parking spaces. Signs indicating truck parking availability have been added along Interstate 43. There are also staging areas for oversize/overweight vehicles.
Indoor amenities have also been upgraded, and restrooms are now ADA-compliant.
“Safety is the cornerstone of the trucking industry, and we applaud the work of the Wisconsin DOT to modernize these two rest areas,” Wisconsin Motor Carrier Association President Dan Johnson said. “Access to safe, accessible and well-maintained parking is essential to driver well-being, regulatory compliance, and highway safety. This investment is especially important for eastern and northeastern Wisconsin, where trucking is critical to supporting manufacturers, farmers, and businesses across the region.”

Wisconsin was recently listed among the best states for public truck parking availability.
The data was compiled by Trucker Path from information provided by platform users.
Capacity is expected to increase in four states where truck parking projects have been announced.
Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi and Wyoming have received U.S. DOT grant funding for these projects, expanding truck parking availability along the interstate system.
Additionally, Louisiana was awarded $640,000 for a truck parking study of the I-10/I-12 corridor. LL
