The Spirit returns to Vero Beach, Fla.

The spring Florida tour continues for Jon Osburn, skipper of OOIDA’s touring tractor-trailer, when he stops Monday in Vero Beach.

The Spirit of the American Trucker is scheduled to be at the Vero Beach TA Travel Center on Monday through Thursday, April 22-25. The Vero Beach TA is at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Rouse 60, Exit 147 from the interstate.

The Vero Beach TA has 162 parking spots.

After Vero Beach, Jon and The Spirit are scheduled to head to Wildwood, Fla., and then Marianna, Fla.

Vero Beach is the farthest down on the Florida Panhandle on this trip for The Spirit.

Jon and his canine co-pilot, Sassi, might be able to smell the ocean breezes from the Atlantic. An Uber of Lyft could get them to the Vero Beach Dog Park, which has an off-leash exercise area. The address is 3449 Indian River Drive East, Vero Beach, FL 32963.

They also could stroll in Tracking Station Beachfront Park. The entrance is between the CVS Pharmacy and 7-11 store. The park hours are from sunrise until sunset.

Jaycee Beach Park and South Beach Park also look like nice places to walk alongside the ocean.

All of those places are on Hutchinson Island, which is a long, thin barrier island that stretches form For Pierce, Fla., to Stuart, Fla.

McKee Botanical Garden also is in Vero Beach’s stretch of Hutchinson Island. It looks beautiful, but it is only open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Adult admission is $12.

Jon and The Spirit visited Vero Beach last April also. That was hit first trip with the ELD mandate fully in force. Drivers a year ago were reporting increased law enforcement spot checks to make sure drivers were using ELDs.
