Texas trucking company ordered to pay $12,500 for spill that led to major fish kill

Environmental regulators in Indiana are seeking $12,500 from a Texas trucking company accused of causing a “major” fish kill last summer.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management issued a notice of violation against MOB Carriers of Euless, Texas, which does business as TX Loadrunners.

According to a notice of violation from IDEM, a semi-truck owned by the company overturned at Exit 149A on Interstate 70 in Richmond, on June 11, 2018, spilling 1,000 gallons of Ammonium Laurel Sulfate into Clear Creek. The chemical, which is a foaming agent used in shampoos and other bath or shower products.

The notice states that the amount of chemical caused “significant foaming” in the highway drainage and into approximately four miles of the creek, resulting in a major fish kill.
