Ten weeks of diesel price increases, but we’ve seen higher in the past 10 years

Weekly prices across the U.S. for a gallon of diesel fuel have been rising for 10 consecutive weeks, since July 23, according to data from the federal Energy Information Administration.

On Monday, the average U.S. price rose more than 4 cents, to $3.313 per gallon.

The average price per gallon for diesel fuel is 52.1 cents higher than a year ago, according to EIA data.

However, prices five years and 10 years ago were even higher.

Ten years ago, on Oct 6, 2008, the average price for a gallon of diesel fuel was $3.875.

Five years ago, on Oct 7, 2013, a gallon of diesel cost an average $3.897.

The highest weekly average price across the U.S. in the past decade was $4.159 on Feb. 25, 2013.

The lowest weekly average price per gallon was $1.98 on Feb 15, 2016.

The weekly average price per gallon last dipped below $3 on March 19, when the price was $2.972
