Jon Osburn, skipper of OOIDA’s The Spirit of the American Trucker tour truck, has been looking forward to a weekend in Louisiana, and this weekend that wish comes true.

The Spirit has left the TA truck stop in Lafayette, La., for the Petro truck stop in Hammond, La.

The Hammond Petro is just off I-12 at Highway 51, Exit 40.

In Lafayette, Jon says it was crawfish harvesting time, so there were plenty of mudbugs for anyone with a taste for them.

However, for his dinner he went over to the Whataburger next to the truck stop.

He said he has heard some positive comments about OOIDA’s petition to reform hours-of-service regs, especially getting rid of the 30-minute break.

“The 30-minute milk and cookies break is B.S.,” Jon said, echoing some of the truckers who have stopped by to talk with him.

Take time to stop and visit with Jon about the Association’s activities and current issues. You can also join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
