When Jon Osburn guides The Spirit of the American Trucker tour trailer in the TA Travel Center in Vero Beach, Fla., he will be in sight of palm trees and about 10 miles from city’s beaches.

Look for The Spirit at the Vero Beach TA at I-95 and state Route 60. It is at Exit 147 on I-95. The Spirit is scheduled to be there April 11-13.

The last stop for The Spirit before Vero Beach was at the Wildwood, Fla., TA. Jon said he had truckers with kind comments about OOIDA talk with him and a couple of them reinstated their membership.

As for Jon’s first trip with the full ELD mandate in force, he said he can confirm that law enforcement officers are doing spot checks for ELDs, and other drivers have witnessed the same.

“They’re saying Florida is being very, very thorough,” Jon said.

From conversations he had at Wildwood and at the Ocala Petro in Reddig, Fla., there still seems to be confusion about the ag ELD exemption.

In case it is helpful, here’s a Land Line article about the ag exemption: FMCSA extends ELD ag waiver to June 18.

Jon said he had the pleasure of chatting with several life members who were on vacation in Florida. They have had temperatures in the 70s but with some rain, he said.

Whenever you see The Spirit tour truck, go say hello to Jon. He enjoys visiting about the Association’s activities and current issues. You can also join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price there. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
