With Hammond, La., in the rear-view mirror, Jon Osburn, skipper of OOIDA’s The Spirit of the American Trucker tour truck, is headed to Jackson, Miss.

He plans to set up shop at the Jackson Petro at Exit 45 on I-20/I-55. He and The Spirit are scheduled to be there through Wednesday, March 14.

In Louisiana, it wasn’t all file gumbo and po’ boys. Truckers there were furious over paying for parking, and they grumbled about the weather.

“They are wearing arctic winter gear at 49 degrees,” Osburn said. His home base is in Idaho.

It wasn’t all complaints and fretting from where he stood, though, he said.

“The food was really good there,” he said.

In fact, on Thursdays at the Country Pride Restaurant at the Hammond TA they put out an expanded spread of Cajun food, with jambalaya, etouffee, red beans and rice, and gumbo. Jon reports it was good eating.

Take time to stop and visit with Jon about the Association’s activities and current issues. You can also join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
