  • Truckers for Troops Telethon Day 1

    LLN (11/5/18) – It’s Day 1 of the 2018 OOIDA Truckers for Troops Telethon, our fund-raising effort to send care packages to troops overseas and help veterans here at home. We’ll also have an Air Force sergeant talks about what it means to get a care package; a Navy veteran and veteran trucker talks about serving at a difficult time; and how fishing equipment made life better for some veterans.

    Segment 1

    Newscast

    • It’s day 1 of the OOIDA Truckers for Troops Telethon. During business hours or during our early broadcast, call 800-444-5791, and ask for membership.
    • After 7:30 p.m. central time, call that same number, 800-444-5791. If you get our automated system, press 1; leave your name and phone number, and we’ll call you back.
    • Take part by sending your dues and donation to OOIDA Truckers for Troops, PO Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO, 64029; be sure to mark your check “Troops, dues and donation,” or “Troops, donation only”.

    Segment 2

    Master Sgt. Stephan Pingel of the U.S. Air Force talks with Terry Scruton about receiving a care package when he was stationed in South Korea – and what it meant to him and the rest of the folks in his unit.

    Segment 3

    Navy veteran and veteran trucker Darrell Osborn talks about the role care packages play in keeping up morale.

    • We’re soliciting hand-made cards and letters from kids, as well as personal thank-you letters to the troops from truckers and others.     And finally, Kathy Winkelman is with Volunteer Services at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Mo. Mary McKenna talks with her about how some simple fishing gear made a real difference in the lives of some veterans.
