- Last Friday, the California State Legislature approved Senate Bill 1402. The legislation makes retailers jointly responsible for violations of state and labor laws when they hire port trucking companies with unpaid final judgments for failure to pay wages; imposing unlawful expenses on employees; failure to remit payroll taxes; provide worker’s compensation insurance; misclassify employees as independent contractors; and commit other labor law violations.
