Segment 1

Beginning July 1, all new CDL applicants in Kansas will be required to complete anti-human trafficking training before they receive their commercial driver’s license. Current CDL holders must also complete the training provided by Truckers Against Trafficking before they can renew their license. The training curriculum can be viewed www.truckersagainsttrafficking.org.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration wants to make it easier for Class B CDL drivers to move up to a Class A license, reducing both time and cost. The proposed rule would eliminate eight instructional units dealing with non-driving activities for those wishing to upgrade. However those units would still be necessary for someone wanting a Class A CDL, who doesn’t already hold a Class B CDL. There will be no set number of hours of instruction and trainees would have to score at least 80 percent on the written exam. Public comments on the proposed rule change will be taken through Aug. 28, 2018. You can submit comments here.

Segment 2

OOIDA Life Member Mike Broaddus recently had what was essentially a secret mission for the government. And it involved honoring a group of Americans who gave everything for their country. Mike shares his story with Mark Reddig. You can see photos and find out more about the Flight 93 National Memorial here.

Segment 3

Jon Osburn is on his annual vacation, but he still stops by the truck stop that bears his name. And while there, he’s hearing about issues such as the Hours of Service, ELDs and truck parking. Mark Reddig talks with the man who drives the Spirit of the American Trucker. See Jon’s full schedule, “The Spirit” Schedule.

Segment 4

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement won’t just affect the court. For months, it will affect all kinds of issues before the U.S. Senate, including many related to trucking. Mark Reddig chats with Nile Elam of OOIDA’s Washington, D.C., office.
