- The Missouri Department of Transportation is getting rid of a few historic bridges. Before demolition can be done, federal law requires the bridge to be offered up to a responsible party, provided they agree to maintain it. Up to 80 percent of the demolition costs or what would have been spent to demolish the bridge is potentially available to the person or persons who ends up reusing the bridge.
