June 26, 1956
The Federal Highway Act provided authorization to build 41,000 miles of interstate highways, which was the largest American public works program at the time. A national transportation network from coast to coast was created with the federal government assuming 90% of the costs.
June 27, 1962
Hank Snow is the first U.S. artist to cover the song, “I’ve Been Everywhere,” which was written by Australian songwriter Geoff Mack. Snow’s version was considered the most successful as it topped the country music charts.

Indiana receives $3.8 billion in an auction from a consortium made up of the Spanish construction firm Cintra and the Macquarie Atlas Roads of Australia exchange for the right to maintain, operate and collect tolls on the Indiana Toll Road for 75 years.

New York, New Jersey and Connecticut impose quarantine restrictions for anyone returning from travel to states that have a significant amount of COVID-19 cases. Essential workers were exempt.
