    Aug. 12, 1983

    “Smokey and the Bandit 3” was released. The final movie of the successful trucking trilogy starred Jackie Gleason as Buford T. Justice and Jerry Reed as Cledus Snow. Burt Reynolds, the star of the first two “Smokey and the Bandit” movies, made a cameo. Hal Needham, the writer and director of the first two films, was not involved.


    September 2009

    The first Guilty By Association Trucking Show takes place in Joplin, Mo. The first show was invitation-only and had 38 trucks.


    Sept. 26, 2016

    OOIDA reaches a landmark $44.4 million tax refund agreement with the state of New York.


    Aug. 22, 2019

    FMCSA’s long-anticipated notice of proposed rulemaking regarding hours-of-service regulations is published in the Federal Register. A final rule was eventually released in May, and the reformed regulations are set to go into effect in September.
