Consider all the angles before becoming an owner-operator
The decision to become an owner-operator shouldn’t be taken lightly. A driver needs to come up with a list of things to think about and check them off one by one. It is easy to miss some aspects that need to be considered, but help is available.
In fact, that is the reason OOIDA developed its Truck to Success course. The three-day course is specifically designed for company drivers who are interested in transitioning to owner-operators.
OOIDA wants to do everything possible to help drivers be successful and make the right decision for them, said Lewie Pugh, executive vice president of OOIDA.
The next Truck to Success course is planned for May 5-7 in Blue Springs, Mo. Tuition for the course is $495 per person, which includes course materials and handouts and also breakfast, lunch and snacks.
OOIDA’s Truck to Success is a course taught by trucking experts, many with extensive experience behind the steering wheel of a tractor-trailer.
OOIDA draws on in-house expertise to discuss permitting, getting your own authority, brokering and factoring, developing a business plan, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and more.
OOIDA also brings in outside experts, including tax expert Barry Fowler of Taxation Solutions Inc. and TruckerTaxTools.com, to explain tax strategies, forming a business entity and maximizing deductions.
Also, Ethan Nadolson of TruckTractorTrailer.com, who has more than 30 years of experience in truck sales, is scheduled to advise students on purchasing and financing equipment.
