  • Truck show season is here

    May 01, 2023 |

With the Mid-America Trucking Show in the rearview mirror and summer now in our sights, there is another crop of trucking shows to add to your calendar.

ATHS National Convention and Truck Show

Billed as “more than just a truck show,” the American Truck Historical Society National Convention and Truck Show heads to The Biggest Little City in the World for 2023.

The show is scheduled for June 8-10 in Reno, Nev. The annual event, which began in 1973, features antique and historical trucks as well as feature presentations on a wide array of topics. According to ATHS, on average more than 1,000 trucks are on display at the show.

“ATHS aims to host an event that members can be proud of,” said Laurence Gration, American Truck Historical Society executive director. “There will be family and kids’ activities, and new this year, a spectacular light show.”

Admission includes the truck show, vendor expo and learning sessions. Pre-registration is required for certain events at the show. To register as an attendee or display truck, visit ATHS.org/Convention or call 816-891-9900.

OOIDA, Cummins, Daimler Truck North America, and Iowa 80 are among the sponsors of the 2023 American Truck Historical Society convention and show.

    Shell Rotella SuperRigs

For the first time, the popular truck show will be presented in the Cowboy State. This year’s truck show contest is set for June 8-10 at CAM-PLEX in Gillette, Wyo.

Now in its 41st year, the annual competition “recognizes and celebrates hard-working drivers and their trucks.”

The event is strictly for working trucks. Participants will compete for 24 awards, including best chrome, best lights and best of show. Shell says more than $25,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs.

    Some of the planned activities:

    • Truck lights competition
    • Fireworks
    • Truck parade
    • Musical entertainment

In addition to prizes, 12 of the competing drivers will be selected to have their trucks featured in the 2024 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.

According to a news release, “there is no fee to enter SuperRigs and the weekend is designed to be fun for the whole family.” To ensure access, Shell recommends pre-registering for the event. While the site to pre-register is currently unavailable, the company says that – along with additional details about the event – will be finalized soon.

    Wheel Jam

Whether you’re into classic cars, motorcycles, or chromed-out semis, Wheel Jam has a little bit of something for every vehicle nut.

Hosted annually at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, S.D., this year’s event is planned for June 1-4. This year marks the 20th anniversary for Wheel Jam.

The four-day event consists of three major shows: car show, motorcycle show and semitruck show. Other activities include live music, stock car races, a parade of vehicles and light show.

Attendees can also try their hand at being a food critic with the Backyard BBQ People’s Choice Competition or the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge.

Admission to Wheel Jam is free, but there are some fees for concerts and races.

Registration for the Wheel Jam Truck Show costs $40 per truck and can be done online at WheelJamTruckShow.com/Registration. LL
