Something for everyone
The 43rd annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree is scheduled for July 14-16 at the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, Iowa.
The three-day event, which began in 1979, will feature over 175 exhibits. The Jamboree is highlighted by the Super Truck Beauty Contest as well as an antique truck display.
The Super Truck Beauty Contest is for full-sized semitrucks and has a little something for everybody. Trucks will be judged in four classes: working truck, show, specialty and rat rod. All entries will compete for awards for best overall theme, polish and detail work and Truckers’ Choice. Preregistration is required to compete and can be done online or by downloading the form.
Visitors can show off their skills by competing in the Trucker Olympics. Last year’s games included a coffee relay, tire roll, strap winding and more.
Don’t think they’ve left your furry friend out, either. You can get them in on the fun with the Trucker’s Best Friend pet contest. Pets will compete in three categories: best dressed, best trick and owner look-a-like.
Other attractions include the Iowa pork chop cookout, nightly live country music, and a fireworks display on July 15. Admission and parking are free on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are to be aware that no ATVs or UTVs are allowed inside the show grounds.
Organizers also encourage visitors to check out the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum, which boasts an impressive assortment of rare and one-of-a-kind trucks on display. Short films about the history of trucking also are available to patrons.
