Scholarship application deadline approaching
If you’re a truck driver with a child or grandchild preparing to enter college, that’s yet another reason to be a member of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.
The OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship program, which was established in 1998, provides assistance to the children, grandchildren and legal dependents of OOIDA members.
Each year, five scholarship recipients are selected.
Any members with children or grandchildren planning to attend a college or trade school should apply. In addition, any truck drivers who are not OOIDA members but have kids in need of a scholarship should consider signing up for membership.
To date, the scholarship has provided more than $400,000.
Apply by Feb. 1, 2025
The application and cover letter to be submitted are available for download on the OOIDA website. Those materials must be postmarked no later than Feb. 1, 2025. The Scholarship Advisory Committee will select the winners through a blind evaluation.
Mary Johnston Scholarship awards are transferred directly to the student’s selected institution and can be renewed for a total of four years. Those funds can be used for tuition or any legitimate school-related expenses.
