Program aims to drive down diabetes
A staggering 88 million adults in America have prediabetes, a health condition that puts you at a higher risk of Type 2 diabetes.
What’s more, 80% of those adults with prediabetes are unaware they have it.
While these 88 million with prediabetes are more likely to develop diabetes, making a lifestyle change has proven to help reduce the risk of diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A stressful job, poor eating habits, time away from home and an aging population are occupational obstacles drivers must navigate.
Based upon research conducted by TrueLifeCare, 69% of drivers are obese compared to 31% of the general working population. In addition, 14% of long-haul drivers are believed to be diabetic.
Driving Down Diabetes, which begins Feb. 1, is designed to help over-the-road drivers reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The free program offered by St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund is approved by the CDC and open to drivers with a valid Class A CDL. Nutrition, exercise, stress management and more will provide drivers with the road map they need to live a healthier lifestyle while reducing their risk of diabetes.
The CDC estimates people with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can cut their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 58%.
St. Christopher Fund’s year-long program provides participants access to:
- Weekly live webinars.
- CDC-approved curriculum.
- A specially trained lifestyle coach.
- A support group with similar goals and challenges.
St. Christopher Fund encourages all professional drivers who are at risk for Type 2 diabetes to participate in this lifestyle change program. LL
