OOIDA puts future owner-operators on the road to success
Becoming an owner-operator takes a leap of faith and a lot of hard work. Fortunately, it’s one road you don’t have to navigate alone.
For prospective owner-operators, as well as current carriers looking to grow their business, OOIDA’s Truck To Success is here to help. The three-day event offers in-depth guidance from industry experts designed to set drivers up for long-term success as owner-operators.
“Truck To Success is a one-stop shop, not only to learn how to get your own authority but also to learn how to be successful at it,” Andrew King, research analyst with the OOIDA Foundation, told Land Line. “There’s so much required of an owner-operator. This course will help you navigate all the regulations without being overwhelmed. Drivers can expect to hear from industry experts who deal with this sort of thing on a daily basis.”
According to data from the OOIDA Foundation, one-in-five new carriers fail within their first year of business. Knowing the potential pitfalls, as well as having the knowledge to hit the ground running, can be the difference between success or failure for an owner-operator.
Truck To Success covers a wide range of topics, from developing a business plan to weighing the pros and cons of running under your own authority versus leasing on to a carrier. Other topics the course will cover include:
- Equipment financing
- Insurance
- Permits and licensing
- Taxes and business structures
- Drug- and alcohol-testing requirements
- Brokers and factoring
This year’s course will be held Oct. 22-24 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Blue Springs, Mo., with both in-person and virtual attendance offered for the event. While the deadline to register for in-person attendance ended on Oct. 1, there is still time to register to attend the course online.
The cost of virtual attendance is $250 with access to course materials provided for three months. Guests attending from a different location and requiring a separate login are an additional $125. The deadline to register for virtual attendance is Oct. 21. LL
