OOIDA on the Road – November 2024
Who doesn’t like compliments?
On some recent stops, OOIDA tour truck driver Marty Ellis received kind words about the Association and Land Line Media from members.
OOIDA encourages members to stop by the Spirit to let us know what we’re doing well and how we could better serve all truck drivers.
Dave Miller and his wife, Darla, are both life members from Dixon, Ill. He said he believes that every truck driver should be an OOIDA member and every owner-operator should have the Association’s insurance. He and his wife are now operating as company drivers after previously working as owner-operators. He said they enjoy reading Land Line.
Charles Dinsmore, a life member from Chillicothe, Mo., started driving 60 years ago and is still trucking at age 79. It’s been a family tradition, as his dad and two brothers also drove truck. Charles is a company driver for Brotherton Ag-Equip. He said he enjoys listening to Land Line Now.
Mike Hitt, a member from Grand Rapids, Ohio, has been driving for Estes since 2010. He runs doubles. His hobby truck is a 1978 Kenworth with a big-cam Cummins. He said it’s a work in progress.
Mark Shubitowski, a life member from Leroy, Mich., has been a truck driver for 40 years. He said he purchased his first truck – a 1976 GMC Astro – when he was 18 years old. Working as a company driver now, he hauls dairy products.
Ken Daehn, a member from Kitchener, Ontario, in Canada, is a company driver. He has been a big supporter of Special Olympics truck convoys in Ontario. Land Line featured Ken in a 2018 article about his work for the convoy. As a volunteer, he helped the Brant County Special Olympics Truck Convoy generate about $75,000 that year.
Tim Morris from Layton, Utah, is a proud member of OOIDA – so much so that he told Marty, “God bless OOIDA.” He said he thanked everyone at the Association for all the work they do to fight for the rights of truck drivers.
Jeffery Murphy, a senior member from Waco, Texas, stopped by The Spirit to renew his membership. Jeffery drives a 2023 Freightliner and has been trucking for more than 30 years. LL
