OOIDA on the Road – June 2020
June will find OOIDA’s tour trailer rolling on the interstate highways of the Pacific Northwest before it stops at the end of the month in Boise, Idaho. That’s home for skipper Jon Osburn.
Osburn will hold court at the end of the month at the TA Travel Center in Boise with his name on it before taking a few days off.
Osburn was named a TA & Petro Citizen Driver in 2016. The Citizen Driver Award recognizes drivers who help bring respect to the truck driving profession. The Boise truck stop was dedicated to him as part of the honor.
Before joining OOIDA, Osburn was named Mayflower’s Driver of the Year back when he drove for them. Then he organized the Medical Education and Resource Vehicle to provide basic medical services and screenings to truckers. Before all of that, he served in the Navy as a hospital corpsman.
OOIDA life member Steen Gronlund was named a 2019 Citizen Driver, and so were OOIDA life members Kenn and Beth Zelten.
Before Osburn gets home in time for Independence Day, he has stops in Missoula, Mont.; Spokane, Wash.; and at Jublitz in Portland, Ore.
There are two reasons Osburn travels the U.S. for OOIDA. The first is to encourage all professional drivers to educate themselves on issues and get involved.
The second reason is to hear from truckers. The OOIDA Board of Directors at OOIDA all are truckers, but they still need to hear from the drivers on the front lines to learn what concerns them the most.
Stop by the Spirit of the American Trucker trailer to let Osburn know about problems you’re seeing, get an update on issues, or offer a news tip for Land Line Media. LL
