  • OOIDA on the Road – December 2025/January 2026

    December 01, 2025 |

An OOIDA membership can save you money in a variety of ways.

First, you can save by taking advantage of exclusive discounts and rebates offered by more than 60 equipment manufacturers and service providers. You can get discounts on everything from a new tractor or trailer to tires, tax preparation, hotel stays and restaurants.

Then there’s the Truckers Advantage Fuel Card. It’s designed specifically for OOIDA members and is accepted at more than 13,000 fuel locations nationwide.

But information is also a valuable commodity.

During a recent stop at OOIDA’s truck, the Spirit, a life member said that the free subscription to Land Line Magazine helped guide his decision about the right truck to purchase.

Hubert Long, of Nanjemoy, Md., said he was in the truck market right around the time the electronic logging device mandate was about to take effect. Instead of buying a new truck, he opted for a glider with an older engine that would be exempt from the ELD mandate. Knowing what regulations were coming helped him make the right decision for his operation. Hubert said he wanted to thank OOIDA and Land Line for saving him from making a costly mistake.

Larry Olson, a life member from Oklee, Minn., received an unexpected benefit from being an OOIDA member. Larry said he was at a full truck stop, and it appeared his search for a parking spot was going to need to continue elsewhere. But another trucker reached out on the CB radio to inform him that they were getting ready to leave and wanted an OOIDA member to get the parking spot.

Shawn Donarski, of Stephen, Minn., recently upgraded his OOIDA status from a senior member to a life member. He said he’s been trucking since 1991 and has logged more than 5 million miles. He currently drives a 2002 Peterbilt.

Ed Hodgkinson, (pictured with OOIDA’s Marty Ellis) is an OOIDA member from Bellevue, Ohio. Ed said that OOIDA helped him by just answering the phone and taking the time to listen. He had recently been involved in a suicide-by-truck incident, and he needed a friendly voice. He said he found it when he called OOIDA, and a staff member spoke with him for a long time. Ed said he was very appreciative.

Patrick and Donna Welch, life members from Morgantown, Pa., drive a Kenworth. Patrick has been driving since 1972, and Donna has been driving since 1992. LL
