    Voters across the nation soon will cast ballots on important races and issues. The proof is in the numbers. There are 6,870 of the 8,118 elected officials at the state and federal levels of government on ballots. They cover both chambers of Congress, governors, state executives and state lawmakers.

    More specifically, in Washington, D.C., all 435  U.S. House seats are on ballots while 34 of 100 U.S. Senate seats are up for grabs.

    At the state level, 36 governor’s seats are on ballots with 28 incumbents seeking re-election.

    The gubernatorial elections put trifecta control on the line in 37 states. Trifecta control is when one party controls the governor’s seat and both statehouse chambers.

    There are another 87 state executive offices on ballots that include lieutenant governors, attorneys general and secretaries of state.

    More than four of every five state legislators’ positions throughout the country also are being voted on. There are no regular state legislative elections in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey and Virginia. Ballots in these four states will focus on local and federal offices, as well as questions. LL
