July truck shows promise ‘fireworks’
From Maine to Washington, and points in between, there are plenty of opportunities for those looking to check out a truck show or several in July.
The Big Rig Round-Up at Voss Park in Butterfield, Minn., and the Southern Idaho Truck Show at the Twin County Fairgrounds get the festivities going during the last weekend in June and first weekend in July.
OOIDA representatives as well as Land Line staff are scheduled to be in attendance at several truck shows this summer.

Walcott Truckers Jamboree
The 44th Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the Iowa 80 Truckstop will feature a Friday night concert headlined by Shenandoah as well as the annual trucker Olympics, Iowa pork chop cookout, super trucks beauty contest and more on July 13-15 in Walcott, Iowa.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring Shenandoah to the Jamboree concert stage this year,” Heather DeBaillie, vice president of marketing for the Walcott Jamboree, said in a news release. “The Walcott Truckers Jamboree is a summer event you won’t want to miss. We look forward to celebrating America’s truckers and the work they do each day to keep this country rolling.”
Admission, parking, and even the concerts are free.
In addition, complimentary shuttles will be provided from the parking area to the event grounds.
Last year, the Walcott Jamboree saw more than 45,000 attendees from 27 states and two Canadian provinces.
Rigs at the Run
The Peoria Showplace at Buffalo Run Casino & Resort is set to host the first-ever Rigs at the Run on July 21-22 in Miami, Okla.
Being held to benefit the Ottawa County Family Connections Foundation; Rigs at the Run lists a parade of lights down Route 66 in Miami, best rig contest, live music, and live comedy are among the events scheduled on its event website.
According to that site, registration for contests will be open through July 22 and will cost $100 for a truck and trailer and $50 for a bobtail.
On its Facebook page, the Ottawa County Family Connections Foundation said the organization’s purpose is “advocating for a better community and future for those with special needs and autism.”
Spectators will be admitted to the show for free, said the Rigs at the Run website.
Top Gun Largecar Shootout
Another show offering free admission will take place July 28-30 at the Rantoul National Aviation Center in Rantoul, Ill.
The 16th annual Top Gun Largecar Shootout, a working class truck show, will feature live music, food, a beer garden, and vendors on site.
In addition, a truck wash sponsored by Millers Detailing and Automotive will be available.
Friday’s events include a parade of lights, while Saturday features a kiddie pedal pull, Jake Brake competition and music from Parrish Trio.
The award ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. LL
