Have your say on Election Day
The upcoming fall elections will be hard-pressed to generate as much attention as a year ago. At that time, nearly 85% of the more than 8,100 elected positions at the state and federal levels of government were up for grabs. Nor will this year’s garner as much attention as next year’s presidential election.
Voters this fall largely will make decisions on issues close to home.
Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi residents will cast ballots for governor, and the latter two will also elect state legislators, as will New Jersey and Virginia residents.
Voters in states that do not have state offices on their fall ballots will focus on local and county candidates and issues. Ballots in various communities also will include questions on issues that affect trucking, such as road funding and truck parking.
For the past 50 years, OOIDA has worked for the interests of all truck drivers. During that time, elected officials at all levels of government have witnessed the commitment of professional drivers.
The Association provides truckers with voting resources. Included in this issue is information on voter registration, early voting and absentee ballots. You can also find details for voting in your home state at FightingForTruckers.com. For more assistance, call the OOIDA Membership Department at 816-229-5791, ext. 4906.
Greater knowledge about who and what is on your ballot is worth the effort, and truckers who have not yet registered to vote or requested a ballot are encouraged to do so. LL
