I-29 reopens north of Council Bluffs, Iowa

Interstate 29 has been fully reopened, including the section from Exit 61 (near Crescent, Iowa) and Exit 71 (a mile south of Missouri Valley, Iowa). That section was reopened over the weekend.

The Missouri Valley, Iowa, Police Department tweeted the news on Sunday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation closed the interstate in March because of severe structural damage and debris left behind by floodwaters that washed across the roadway.

The section of Interstate 29 that was closed because of flooding from north of St. Joseph, Mo., to Council Bluffs, Iowa, reopened May 8.

About 150 miles of I-29 had been closed because of flooding from Missouri Valley, Iowa, to near St. Joseph, Mo.

There are still limited services and access in some areas along I-29 although the interstate has reopened. Restrooms and fuel services remain closed at some exits.

I-29 runs from Kansas City, Mo., at a junction with Interstate 35 and Interstate 70, to the Canada–U.S. border near Pembina, N.D., where it connects with Manitoba Highway 75. It is 750 miles long.
