As he steers the OOIDA touring trailer into the Petro in Clearwater, Minn., at least in his mind driver Jon Osburn can smell the fresh baked goods from Nelson Bros. Bakery.

Jon, his canine co-pilot Sassi and The Spirit of the American Trucker are scheduled Aug. 20-22 to be at the Clearwater Petro Travel Plaza. It is at I-94 and Highway 24 at Exit 178.

Nelson Bros. Bakery on its website has been in operation 40 years. They say they are Clearwater’s hometown bakery and they daily bake donuts, sweet rolls, filled pastries, cookies, muffins, pies, and something they call Fritter Bread. They have donuts the size of your head, they claim.

Jon said he would investigate.

Clearwater in on the Mississippi River where the Clearwater River flows into it. The city is about 60 miles northwest of Minneapolis and 15 miles southeast of St. Cloud, Minn.

The stop before Clearwater was at the Eau Clair Big Rig Truck Show, in Chippewa Falls, Wis.

The truck show brought people out and so did the monster truck performance, he said.

There was quite a bit of buzz about the birthday celebration on Aug. 18 for 16-year-old Dakota “Bubba” Cadd, a truck enthusiast from Milton, Wis. Jon said he and others were touched by the heartwarming story of all the truck drivers showing up to boost the spirits of Bubba, who suffers from Dandy-Walker Syndrome, cerebral palsy and seizures.

Whenever you see The Spirit tour truck, go say hello to Jon. He enjoys visiting about the Association’s activities and current issues. You also can join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price there. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
