Jon Osburn is taking the Spirit of the American Trucker to another truck show, the Buckeye Invitational Truck Show in Springfield, Ohio.

The Spirit, OOIDA’s touring trailer, is scheduled to be there June 8-9.

He and his canine co-pilot, Sassi, won’t be the only OOIDA ambassadors at the show. Terry Scruton of Land Line Nowis headed there, too.

Wendy Parker, staff writer for Land Line Magazine, also will be there. She and her husband, George Parker, are organizers of the truck show.

Admission to the truck show is free. It is being staged on the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, 4401 S Charleston Pike.

In addition to the truck show and full schedule of music, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, there will be a Q&A round-table discussion hosted by OOIDA and Land Line Magazine. You can get questions answered on the hot topics in the trucking industry. Lewie Pugh, OOIDA executive vice president, will be there fielding questions, as will Monte Wiederhold, an OOIDA board member of Lebanon, Ohio.

At 4 p.m., a memorial convoy in tribute to longtime OOIDA leader Jim Johnston is planned. It is a benefit for the Truckers Final Mile.

This is the first year for the show. Click here for a schedule of events.

The stop before the Buckeye Invitational for The Spirit was in Lodi, Ohio. Jon said he talked to a lot of truckers there.

“We’re getting a lot of ‘attaboys’ and ‘thank yous’ about the personal conveyance changes,” Osburn said.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a guidance on May 31. It allows truck drivers to use their vehicles to not only get to and from work but to get somewhere safe to rest, regardless of whether or not the vehicle is under load.

OOIDA has pushed long and hard for changes to personal conveyance and hours of service.

Whenever you see The Spirit tour truck, go say hello to Jon. He enjoys visiting about the Association’s activities and current issues. You also can join or renew your OOIDA membership for $10 off the regular price there. Also, you can get vouchers for flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines from Jon at The Spirit.
