Out-of-control fires continue to destroy property and devastate the landscape in California.

“We’re not even close to being out of this emergency,” officials with California’s Office of Emergency Services told reporters on Friday, Oct. 13.

Commercial drivers who must traverse the northern counties of the state should check online at Quickmap.dot.ca.govfor road closures and other information. As of Friday afternoon, U.S. Highway 101 was closed in two places north of Santa Rosa, Calif., for instance.

CNN reports the death toll at 31, making it one of the deadliest fire events in the state.

The largest of the group of 21 fires are still nowhere close to containment. Mother Nature has not been much help, with gusty winds close to 60 miles per hour forecast into Saturday and with no rain expected in the next week.
