A new New Jersey DOT alert system will send information to drivers stranded in long-term highway closures. Called 511-NJ-Connect, the service will use geo-fencing technology to identify drivers who are near a sustained traffic stoppage and send an alert directly to their handheld devices. Drivers can opt for text or phone updates throughout the duration of the incident.
