Chain law guide

While chain laws vary by state, you don’t have to spend hours trying to research them. Land Line has put together a comprehensive list of chain law requirements in the U.S. and Canada.

Insurance refund in Michigan

Truckers with a truck or vehicle insured in Michigan could get a $400 refund to start the new year. The state has a surplus of funds in the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association Fund. If you have questions about the refund, contact your insurance provider.

FMCSA extends B.C. emergency declaration

FMCSA has extended its emergency declaration linked to flooding and landslides in British Columbia. The order allows Canadian drivers providing emergency services and essential goods to bypass certain FMCSA regulations. It now runs through Jan. 31.

Daimler recall 7,000 Western Stars

Daimler has recalled affected model year 2017 through 2019 Western Stars. Those trucks have a power stud that passes through the bulkhead, which could cause an electrical arc and fire. A little more than 7,000 units are affected.

Daimler recall over steering problem

Daimler has recalled certain 2021 and 2022 Western Star 49X trucks. Some steering shafts may not have been installed correctly, which could lead to loss of steering control. About 500 trucks are affected.

Idaho to start licensing hauling hemp cargos, production

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture has announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had approved the state’s hemp law, which defined “hemp” as different from marijuana and legalized it. That means truckers can haul it without encountering problems with law enforcement.

OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship

Applications are being accepted for the OOIDA Mary Johnston Scholarship. The program awards one $2,000-per-year and four $1,000-per-year scholarships to children, grandchildren and legal dependents of OOIDA members. You can apply through the OOIDA website. The deadline is Feb. 1.

Great Dane Recall

Great Dane trailers will recall around 3,300 model year 2022 Champion dry van and Everest reefer trailers due to insufficient lubricant in the wheel hub. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Feb. 1. Owners may also contact Great Dane customer service for more information.

Pennsylvania rolls out new website and app

The Pennsylvania DOT has rolled out some updates to its 511PA traveler information service. 511PA is available online, by smartphone app or you can call 511.

Cummins recalls engines

A recall has been issued on certain Cummins X12 diesel engines. Fuel tubes in the engines can crack, resulting in a high pressure fuel leak, increasing the risk of fire.

Daimler recall

Daimler will recall about a hundred model year 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter vehicles. The front axle fender liner and brake hose may be too close, allowing the fender liner to contact and damage the brake hose.

WIT Driver of the Year award nominations

The Women in Trucking Association is asking for nominations for its Driver of the Year award. The application is open to any female driver who has safely driven at least one million consecutive, accident-free miles and have made a positive contribution to the trucking industry and their community. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1.

Illinois joins guidance app network

Illinois has joined other states using the ProMiles Permit Route Guidance app. The app includes audible turn-by-turn technology, allowing truckers to hear directions while keeping their attention on the road. The free app is optimized for routine oversize/overweight permits.

Women in Trucking has put out an open call for nominations for their 2022 Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 10.

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling nearly 3,000 2020 to 2022 trucks for an issue with the fuel injection system. Fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak. The recall starts Feb. 10.
