Survey on proposed closure of Lewis and Clark Bridge

The Washington state DOT is conducting an online survey regarding a proposed closure of the Lewis and Clark Bridge between Longview, Washington, and Rainier, Oregon. The closure would take place over six days in spring or summer of 2023. Survey responses will be accepted until Aug. 15.

Pilot Flying J Road Warrior contest returns

Nominations are being accepted for Pilot Flying J’s annual Road Warrior contest. The company is offering up $30,000 this year to three professional drivers who go the extra mile in their jobs and in their communities. The deadline is Aug. 15. Truckers for Troops donations accepted

Truckers can still make direction donations to OOIDA Truckers for Troops. The program sends care packages to U.S. troops overseas and supports efforts of the Veterans Community Project to end veteran homelessness.

Updated emergency declarations site

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has updated its emergency declarations website. CVSA says improvements include changes to allowable weights, an interactive map of declarations throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. and comprehensive exemption details. Navistar recall

Navistar has recalled nearly 34,000 2022 and 2023 HV, HX, Lonestar and LT trucks. NHTSA says the R.H. Sheppard steering gears may have been assembled incorrectly, which can cause the gear to fracture, meaning loss of steering control and a higher risk of a crash. Notification letters are set to go out in August.

Brake Safety Week

The CVSA’s Brake Safety Week is scheduled Aug. 21-27. During the enforcement campaign, commercial motor vehicle inspectors conduct brake system inspections on large trucks and buses in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
