Truckers for Troops donations accepted

Truckers can still make direction donations to OOIDA Truckers for Troops. The program sends care packages to U.S. troops overseas and supports efforts of the Veterans Community Project to end veteran homelessness.

Comment now on speed limiter proposal

FMCSA is considering a rule that would mandate speed limiters on commercial trucks. OOIDA has issued a Call to Action encouraging all truckers to submit comments to FMCSA on the proposal. The deadline has been extended to July 18.

CDL training scholarships

Job search website Indeed is funding 500 Class-A commercial driver’s license training scholarships for veterans and their spouses. You can apply for the scholarship program by filling out the online application.

Free rest area coffee in Washington state

Free coffee is returning to rest areas in Washington state this summer and beyond. A program that allowed volunteer groups to hand out free cups of Joe to drivers was put on hold because of the pandemic. Not every location will have free coffee volunteers every day. Signs at the rest areas will let travelers know when groups are on site providing cups of java.

Live video on 511 website

The Wisconsin DOT unveiled a new live video feed feature on the state’s 511 travel information system. You can sign up for the new feature online.

Updated emergency declarations site

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has updated its emergency declarations website. CVSA says improvements include changes to allowable weights, an interactive map of declarations throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. and comprehensive exemption details. Operation Safe Driver Week

CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled to run from July 10-16. Law enforcement in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will look for drivers engaged in unsafe driving behaviors, with a focus on speeding.

Who is a broker?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is asking for feedback regarding the definitions of brokers and bona fide agents. The deadline for comments is July 11.
