Earlier this year we alerted you to proposed legislation in Virginia that would mandate all trucks use a GPS device while in Virginia. OOIDA sent the bill sponsor a letter of opposition which can be read by clicking on the following link: VA – OOIDA to State Legislature (Oppose HB 170).pdf.
The bill was introduced by Delegate Terry Austin. We recently spoke with Delegate Austin and he informed us he’d be striking the bill – meaning, he’s no longer pursuing it. This is great news! He also provided us with more background about the issue he’s trying to solve, so we look forward to providing him with our recommendations and hopefully being part of the solution.
We appreciate all of you that made calls or sent emails to Delegate Austin. This is how grassroots advocacy is supposed to work. We also appreciate Delegate Austin’s willingness to learn more about the trucking industry and find a solution that solves a problem without creating more problems. Accordingly, we would encourage all of our members in Virginia to call Delegate Austin’s office at 804-698-1019 to thank him for striking HB 170.
As always, thank you for your time and support of OOIDA. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org should you have any questions or require additional information.
