LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It has been a while since BFGoodrich has come out with big news about its commercial tires.

On Thursday at the Mid-America Trucking Show, the tire company ended that dry spell by announcing its new all-terrain tires for on- and off-road applications and for the steering and drive tires: Cross Control S and Cross Control D.

Designed for some of the most demanding jobs in trucking, the Cross Control tires address three significant factors when truckers are looking for tires: durability, traction and retreadability. With significant growth in oil/gas, construction and logging truck operations, these new all-terrain tires provide the strength needed.

Charlotte, N.C.-based BFGoodrich referred to what it accurately calls “downtime-fighting durability,” i.e. a tire strong enough to reduce the amount of time spent not working because of maintenance.

The full coverage protector ply is 75 percent wider than the Yokohama LY053. This protects the tire from penetration on jagged terrain beyond the outer groove. Cross Control tires also include thick sidewalls to lessen any damage from impacts.

The Cross Control S wide-base provides 20 percent better mileage than the BFGoodrich ST565 wide-base tire.

Anti-cut and chip resistance give the Cross Control tires more life.

Cross Control tires are designed with serrated shoulders. The staggered rib blocks allow hard-working trucks to complete the job while navigating through mud, snow and wet conditions.

No matter how high temperatures get, either through hot temperatures or hard work, Cross Controls are protected from the elements with heat-release compounds. This reduces internal casing temperatures, giving tires more life and retreadability.

The Cross Control S wide-base is guaranteed to provide 20 percent more mileage than the BFGoodrich ST565 wide-base tire. The steer tire is available in 11R22.5, 11R24.5 and 315/80R22.5. Sizes 385/65R22.5 and 425/65R22.5 will be available in May.

Cross Control D tires are designed with 25 percent more lugs to grab snow, mud and dirt. Compared to the Yokohama LY053, the D-series of Cross Control provides an open lugged design whether it is brand new or worn.

If a trucker is not completely satisfied with the Cross Control performance, they are backed up by the Work Hard Guarantee. BFGoodrich will pay 50 percent of the acquisition price any time within the first six months of the life of the tire or up to 50 percent of the tread.
