Nothing says “truck show” quite like a lot full of freshly washed, waxed and polished show trucks.

The highlight for many attendees at the Mid-America Trucking Show is the Paul K. Young Truck Beauty Contest, with hundreds of gorgeous rigs staking out prime pavement space on the backlot of the Kentucky Exposition Center. The show is named in honor of the man who founded MATS.

The trucks are on display throughout the show, but the trophy presentation was Saturday, March 30, in Room B101 at the convention center.

The best of show award winner for People’s Choice went to Mark Hollen, an OOIDA associate member from Denver, Pa., with “She Gives Me The Blues,” a radiant, two-tone 2014 Kenworth W900L. Hollen’s bobtail Kenworth also cruised home with awards in the Limited Mileage Bobtail With No Miles category, and garnered one of the Top Three Kenworth awards.

OOIDA members Eric Turner Sr. of Ellenwood, Ga., and Kaleb Hammett of Dodd City, Texas, continued their winning ways, picking up best of show honors for Working Combo and Working Bobtail, respectively.

Turner’s 2015 Peterbilt 389 and chromed-out 2018 Wally-Mo 8-car hauler, dubbed “Showtime,” also won best of show honors at Shell Rotella’s SuperRigs last year. Hammett’s 2017 Peterbilt 389, “Ya’Savvy,” took home a Working Truck – Limited Mileage award at SuperRigs as well.

Rodney Miller, an OOIDA senior member from Millersburg, Ohio, was the 2019 recipient of the Jake Eilen Pride in Your Ride Award, presented every year by the Eilen family in memory of Jake, who died in a car crash in 2008. Miller’s truck, “Blood Sweat and 031 Tears,” is a 2018 Peterbilt 389 pulling a 2019 Great Dane Everest SS trailer.

Other best of show winners include:

Limited Mileage Bobtail With Miles – “Citrus Mistress,” a 2017 Kenworth W900L, driven by K.C. Cousins, with Fleenor Brothers of Carthage, Mo.

Limited Mileage Bobtail With No Miles – “Big Red” a 2013 Peterbilt 389 driven by Durrell M. Martin, with Cedar Ridge Transport LLC, New Holland, Pa.

Limited Mileage Combo – “Never Satisfied,” a 2008 Kenworth W900L pulling a 2019 Etnyre Low Boy trailer, driven by Dustin Shipman, with J&L Contracting LLC, Sparta, Mo. LL
